The Ancient Texts

My public library has a summer reading challenge for all ages and I've decided to take part! The challenge started May 22nd and I need to read 30 hours by August 17th. I want to document my reading here as well as give some little thoughts on what I'm reading, so there WILL be spoilers :))

I started the book the night before and read the prologue, but I'm officially starting the challenge out by reading the first two chapters of A Clash of Kings, which is the second book in the Game of Thrones series. The first chapter details Arya leaving Kings Landing disguised as a boy and leaving with a group of men going to the Wall. The next chapter is about Sansa who is still at Kings Landing with Joffery. I'm a big fan of Arya and Sansa, so I was happy they were the focus of first two chapters of the book. I do want to talk about the prolgue, even though I know I didn't technically read it as part of the challenge. And all I really have to say is that Stannis is a moron. Okay reading debreif over, bye! -.kpg

I had two different reading sessions this day. For the first session, I read 19 pages for 26 minutes. This was a Tyrion chapter and basically he just got back to King's Landing and was appointed hand of the king by his father. Basically he's annoyed bc his evil nephew and sister are kind of fucking everything up fr. So he plans on getting everything back on track, good for him. A little later in the day I read 13 pages in 9 minutes. This was a Bran chapter and I'm sorry to say I'm a bit of a Bran chapter hater, like even during the first book, I found his chapters to be more boring. Like it was fine, but he's kinda just at Winterfell rn. I do feel bad for him tho bc his entire family except for Rickon is gone and his dad was just killed. Poor kid. That's right, I read for 66 minutes in ONE reading session. I may have had small breaks, but I paused my timer for them because I have integrity. I read another Arya chapter and basically she's still traveling with the men going to the wall. She speaks to Jaqen H'ghar for the first time, so that's pretty cool. At some point gold cloaks (like the royal family police) go up to them all and say they are looking for someone and they get told to fuck off. Arya obv assumes it's her, but they're actually there for Gendry , INTERSTING (even tho I have seen the show so I know why lol). Next chapter is about Jon. He's at the wall and they're about to go north of it. Mormont gives him a huge freaking lesson about the geneology of the Targaryens and at the end he's like "idk why I told you that" and it's funny bc there genuinely doesn't seem a point other than to tell the reader lol. But it was interesting, so good for George RR Martin and his exposition. Next chapter and it is a Catelyn chapter, god help me. I basically can't stand her chapters, but maybe I will like them better overall in this book? Anyway it's war talk mosly, yawn!! Jk lol, but I do feel bad for her because her son is going off the deep end a bit with the war and he refuses to listen to anything she says. Oh and her father is dying. She can't catch a break fr.
